We Finally Did It!

On December 27th, we finally killed a pig. Dennis shot it with only ten minutes left to legal shooting time. It was a black and white sow between 80 and 100 pounds.

I love where I live!!!

One great thing about living in New Orleans is when you show up to work and a friend has bought a sack of oysters and has shucked them to share with his friends. I made some cocktail sauce to go with them and we were all in heaven!

So we went hunting this morning for deer and pigs.  We didn't see any alive, but we saw where a couple of pigs had been killed.  Below are some pics of what somebody had done with the remnants of their kill.

Some jack-leg draped the head, with the skin still attached,
over a fallen log.

It kinda looked like a live pig from a distance.  This seemed like
a pretty grotesque display to me, and I don't gross out easily.

And here's a couple close-ups of the tusk.  This person actually
cut 3 of the 4 tusks out, apparently to keep as trophies.

Good Training

This was shot while demonstrating non-compliant take downs.  While executing an arm bar take down, if the suspect does not go down, you can use a knee strike to the common peroneal nerve.  Bear in mind, this was the THIRD time today that he had kneed me in that pressure point!  Thank God for the body hardening training that I had in the Marine Corps, or else I would be in a good deal of pain right now.

Most Successful Hunting Weekend

This weekend was my best ever!  I went to Pearl River WMA Saturday morning, and got 2 squirrels.  I went back Sunday and got 2 more!  And the best part was, the 2nd one was a female.  For some unknown reason, every squirrel I've shot until today has been male.  I was beginning to think that there WERE no females in this swamp...

If any of you hunt in Pearl River, or if you know somebody that does, and you or they have had any success hunting pigs. please leave me a comment.  I have yet to get one.

Also, November 13th starts deer season, at least for the primitive firearms portion.  I can't friggin' wait!  I haven't bagged one of those yet either, but i feel like this year is going to be my year!  My mouth has been watering for venison chili...
